Sharon Wiener, M.A., RPC, MPCC. Master Practitioner of Clinical Counselling. Private Office on the Naramata Bench

View from apt.

I have over 25 years of experience counselling individuals and couples. Originally in private practice in Toronto, for the past 10 years I have been working in the South Okanagan, presently in a private office in my home on the Naramata Bench, 10 minutes outside of Penticton.

What is Counselling?  Counselling offers a way to explore normal life experiences, such as stress, anxiety, depression, anger, loss & grief, conflict, transition, relationship problems, etc., bringing awareness, understanding, and an improved ability to cope with these when they arise.  It is also a safe place to resolve old wounds and unconscious self-destructive behaviours and beliefs that may have developed as a result of painful life experiences, or are the result of trauma or abuse. It is confidential, supportive, and can provide tools and strategies for both acceptance and change.

My approach:  the style that would best describe my way of working is compassionate, intuitive, practical and present. My work embraces both cognitive and feeling-centred approaches. I have been a practitioner of Buddhist meditation for 25 years, and a meditation teacher since 1999. The training of a clear, relaxed and focused mind, together with an open heart has greatly informed my counselling work.

I am a registered, insured member of the Canadian Professional Counsellors  Association. Counselling fees are private (not covered by the B.C Medical Services Plan), however some extended health insurance providers such as Pacific Blue Cross will reimburse some or all of the fees, depending on your plan. Please check whether you are covered for ‘Counsellors with a Master’s (M.A.) degree.’ Privately paid fees are tax deductible as a medical expense.
